About Us

On any given day, there are over 900 local youth in foster care in our service region and more than 5,000 in Virginia! Which means there are more youth entering the local foster care system than there are families to serve them.

Founded in 1973, People Places was instrumental in establishing Treatment Foster Care (TFC) nationwide, working closely with public and private agencies to develop, train, and implement this model of care for youth focused on the importance of relationship.

Over 50 years later, our core values remain the same: to serve children and families within our communities and provide them with the support and services they need to thrive.

Serving the Central Piedmont Shenandoah Valley regions, our service area extends up to one hour from our offices in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, and Staunton

The goal for children in foster care is returning to live with family in a safe and stable environment. Our foster parents are a key component of this reunification process.

People Places provides support and guidance throughout the foster care experience. A relationship with a loving, supportive foster parent can make all the difference.

Many foster parents are also certified to adopt and People Places assists in finding a permanent, adoptive families.
