BUILDING GOODNESS FOUNDATION OVERVIEW
Founded in 1999, Building Goodness Foundation (BGF) is a Charlottesville-based nonprofit construction organization. As the construction industry’s outreach to the world, we envision a future in which all communities have the buildings they need to thrive. BGF connects skilled volunteers and professionals from the design and construction industries with international and local opportunities to use their professional skills for a good cause. Internationally, we are currently building in Haiti and Guatemala, but we have also completed projects in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Liberia, and Costa Rica. These include six clinics, twelve schools, and more than 1,200 houses in collaboration with our partner NGOs, nonprofit organizations, and community members. Locally, we serve more than 9,000 residents annually through our C’ville Builds program. This program unites local builders, volunteers, and industry partners to complete building and home repair projects that support local needs.

MISSION AND VISION
The mission of BGF is to build community and improve lives. As the construction industry’s outreach to the world, we envision a future in which all communities have the buildings they need to thrive. Our Core Values are:
?      Building quality projects that are generative and enduring
?      Communities that are healthy, viable, and interconnected
?      Collaborative volunteer service
?      Craftsmanship and design
?      Human beings and their cultures
?      Excellence in our organization and its outcomes
?      Transformational experience
?      Partnerships that empower
OUR AUDIENCE
Donors
As a nonprofit organization, our work is made possible by donations from individuals and organizations. BGF has several donor groups and programs, including monthly givers and planned givers, and many potential ways of making donations online, via stock, etc. Information about the various ways to donate must be easy to find and easy to use on the website. In addition to various ways of giving, we would like our website to highlight our work in the three regions that we work (Central America, the Caribbean, and Virginia) so that interested donors can make donations to various BGF programs.

Volunteers
Volunteers are fundamental to BGF, and we are fortunate to have a corps of hundreds of construction industry volunteers that complete projects locally and internationally. The website needs to provide an easy way for volunteers to understand what the volunteer opportunities are, to make an inquiry about volunteering, and to find out relevant information about volunteering on projects both locally and internationally.

Nonprofit Partners and Local Homeowners
BGF partners with local and international nonprofit organizations to build the structures that will increase their capacity to do great work. For both our local and international work, the website needs to explain the benefits of partnering with BGF, outline our application and selection process, and provide space for potential partners to get in contact or submit an application. BGF also works with local homeowners. We need to have a section where homeowners can find BGF’s resources, learn about our process, and potentially apply or be in touch.
Across audiences, the website needs to have an easy way for people to sign up for regular communications such as newsletters and to be in touch.

WEBSITE OBJECTIVES
  1. Tell the BGF story and narrative, presenting BGF’s services, unique model, and impact in a values-driven way that inspires engagement with our mission and is easy for people to connect and engage with.
  2. To inspire people to be involved with BGF as a donor, volunteer, partner or general ambassador; to showcase BGF’s core values and identity in an inspiring, inclusive, and welcoming way.
  3. To provide information, instructions, and a way to:
·       Volunteer
·       Donate
·       Partner
·       Sign up for communications
·       Be in touch
  1. Provide the website in Spanish (Central America).
  2. To highlight and thank our many donors, partners, and volunteers.

Current Website: www.buildinggoodness.org
Our current website was last updated in 2019. We currently use Squarespace, and we find it easy to manage and edit our website’s content, so we would ideally like to continue using this content management system. However, after nearly ten years, we feel that the theme is outdated and not representative of our dynamic, community-driven, and impactful organization. Although we have pages about our projects, they are not readily recognizable within the current structure. We would like to share more information about our projects, including testimonials and impact stories, but there is no clear place for these to be featured. The website is not intuitive for our three main audiences – donors, volunteers, and partners – and lacks a clear path for our visitors to follow to find what they want.

New Website Functionality Requirements
Our new website will need:
?      Intuitive navigation in two various ways:
?      Geographically based: Central America, Charlottesville, Caribbean
?      Action based: donate, volunteer, partner
?      Integration with donation software, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT
?      Clean and focused design driven by values and story
?      All applicable content imported from current site
?      Optimized with SEO best practices
?      A blog
?      Social media integration (share buttons, follow buttons, etc.)
?      Newsletter sign-up form(s)
?      Contact form
?      A Spanish translation option, with translation provided by the web developer

BGF will supply the content, including edited existing content and content for new pages, as well as photos and videos. BGF will provide a style guide with fonts and colors. We would like to consider options for interactive design elements, such as a timeline of projects.
