FOOD DRIVE
Throughout the holiday season, The Paramount Theater will be hosting a food drive to benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Event attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to donate to the food bank, and The Theater will have collection bins setup in the lobby from November 24-December 31. You can find a list of their most needed items here.
All food donations should be non-perishable, with no glass containers. Items in high demand right now include: dairy items such as canned, evaporated, or powdered milk, 100% fruit juice in boxes and cans, low- or no-sodium canned vegetables, canned fruits in light syrup or fruit juice, boxed pasta, rice, cereal, canned soups and stews, and macaroni and cheese.
ABOUT BRAFB
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank serves 25 counties and 8 cities on either side of the Blue Ridge through distribution centers in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Winchester and Verona. It provides nutritious food to 109,500 people on average each month through a far-reaching network of more than 400 community partners–food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and program sites like schools, community centers, and health care clinics.
ABOUT THE MOVIE
“This is one of those rare Christmas comedies that has a heart, a brain, and a wicked sense of humor, and it charms the socks right off the mantelpiece.” Roger Ebert
Will Ferrell stars as the ultimate fish out of water, Buddy, who as a baby crawls into Santa’s toy bag and is whisked off to the North Pole, where he is raised as an elf.
A misfit who grows to be three times the size of his elf family, Buddy ultimately heads to his birthplace of New York City to seek out his roots. Unfortunately, they turn out to be a “Scrooge”-like father (James Caan) and a cynical eight-year-old stepbrother who doesn’t believe in Santa.
Worst of all, everyone seems to have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. But using his simple elf ways, Buddy sets out to single-handedly win over his family and save Christmas in New York, hoping to at last find his true place in the world.
In addition to Ferrell and Caan, the film features an all-star ensemble cast led by Ed Asner as Santa Claus, Bob Newhart, Mary Steenburgen, and Zooey Deschanel.
