The Honorable George Foresman, NSPC Executive Director
As the NSPC Executive Director he supports U.S. national security leadership and engagement activities. Throughout his bipartisan career, Foresman has held positions with five Democratic and Republican Governors as well as two U.S. Presidents. Virginia?s homeland security secretary, Foresman was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as undersecretary at the Department of Homeland Security.
Foresman continues to strengthen U.S. national security through on-going formal service to America as a DoD senior advisor and adjunct university professor on national security. As part of a select group, he prepares senior military and civilian leaders to transition into top leadership positions as well as guide U.S.-led multinational efforts on global and outer-space security. Foresman is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and the Virginia Executive Institute
Phil Potter, NSPC Founding Director
Philip Potter is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Politics at University of Virginias and the Founding Director of the National Security Policy Center. He specializes in foreign policy and international relations.
His research focuses on foreign policy, international security & terrorism, and militant violence. He is a principal investigator for a Department of Defense Minerva Initiative project to map and analyze collaborative relationships between terrorist organizations.
He has recently published articles in International Organization, Journal of Politics, International Studies Quarterly, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, and the Annual Review of Political Science, among other journals.
He has been a fellow at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania and holds degrees from UCLA and McGill University.
