Overview
The Albemarle Foundation for Education (AFE) was established in 2022 with the mission to generate community commitment to helping each student in Albemarle County Public Schools thrive. Consistent with the ACPS Strategic Plan: Learning for All, the AFE aligns community resources to opportunities that: (1) Support the ACPS mission to help all students learn and thrive; (2) Have a positive impact on outcomes in the ACPS Strategic Plan; (3) Would not otherwise be funded by the school system; and (4) Generate a community commitment to our public schools.
We are eager to share the new initiatives for the 2024-2025 School Year: Communities in Schools Model, Families in Crisis, and the transition of the Families Helping Families Legacy Fund to AFE!
The Communities in Schools Model combines one-on-one relationships with evidence-based programs and mobilizes community resources to achieve results and remove barriers that keep students from succeeding in school and life. Full-time site coordinators are embedded at Greer ES, Journey MS, Albemarle HS, and Red Hill ES. The CIS Team works within three main areas: Mentoring/Tutoring (Supporting with after-school programming, i.e. reading and math intervention, enrichment clubs); Basic Needs (i.e. Dental, Vision, and Food Insecurity); and Family Engagement (Engaging marginalized families, support with communicating with schools, facilitating family literacy programming).
The Families in Crisis Program supports families experiencing housing instability by providing basic needs support (clothing, food, housing, transportation, et cetera). The Community in Schools (CIS) model integrates student support from across the community, addressing barriers to academic success and promoting student well-being.
Families Helping Families has transitioned from a 501c3, non-profit to a legacy fund housed under the operations of the Albemarle Foundation for Education (AFE). Transitioning to a Legacy Fund allows FHF to become part of the greater school community, ensuring accessibility for all students and removing barriers to educational success.
Your partnership is key in supporting our students, teachers, and schools. These initiatives align with the work of your organization. This breakfast highlights exciting ways our community partners can collaborate and create a lasting impact within Albemarle County Public Schools. We invite you to be part of the conversation—together, we can strengthen our schools and empower our students!
The breakfast will be at the Lambs Lane Boys & Girls Club, 210 Lambs Lane, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Please enter through the main doors, the meeting will be held in the cafeteria commons area.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, November 26th
