SUMMARY:Public Policy Committee
DESCRIPTION:Pubic Policy Discussion: Competing for Tourist Dollars\n\nSpeaker: Roy Van Doorn\, City Select\n\n\n\nAs the hospitality and tourism sector moves into recovery\, strategic communities that compete for tourist dollars will invest resources to leverage opportunities and get the "biggest bang for the buck." Industry professionals play an important role in effective decision-making\, and the April Public Policy discussion will focus on this issue. \n\n \n\nRoy Van Doorn is the owner and founder of City Select\, a Charlottesville-based company that leads the region in providing visitor information at area lodging facilities since 2000. City Select provides materials\, guidance\, and training for front desk staff members to help visitors make quality in-market decisions\, and also produces many visitor guides. Roy serves as President of the Virginia Restaurant Lodging Travel Association\, is an officer of the Downtown Business Association\, and is an airport commissioner.\n\n\nThe Public Policy Committee serves as a legislative and regulatory think tank for the Chamber Board of Directors and the many roundtables and councils of the Chamber\, to help inform the organization's advocacy efforts and initiatives. The committee also reviews legislative action and\, when necessary\, recommends action to the Chamber Board of Directors. Only the Board of Directors can decide whether the Chamber will take a formal position on issues of public policy. The Public Policy Committee and Chamber of Commerce DO NOT endorse candidates for office.
